Peanut Butter + Pumpkin Dog Treats

I’ve never baked for a pet before. But then I stopped and thought about how I’m trying to eat healthier, why not the dog too? I had so much fun making these treats and Piper is absolutely gaga over them. (I even tried one myself, but it only tasted like a cracker.) I don’t like using my rolling pin, but the dough was sturdy and really easy to work with.

Peanut Butter + Pumpkin Dog Treats

• 2 1/2 C whole wheat flour
• 2 eggs
• 3/4 C pumpkin puree
• 3 Tbsp all-natural peanut butter

Preheat oven to 350°F. Place all ingredients in the mixing bowl of a stand mixer, use your paddle attachment. Mix on low for about a minute or until the dough starts to come together. It won’t be one big ball yet, but a bunch of smaller ones. Turn out dough onto a lightly floured surface. Work it together into a large ball, then roll it out to about 1/4″ thickness. You can use a cookie cutter for shapes or a knife to cut strips. (I used a 1″ 2-sided biscuit cutter.) Roll out the scraps again and again until there’s not enough dough left to work with. Place the treats on a baking sheet lightly coated with cooking spray. They don’t expand, so 1/2″ between treats is enough. Bake 30 minutes. Let cool completely. Makes 75+ 1″ treats.

How long do these keep for? All other homemade natural dog treats I’ve made spoil before my dogs can eat them all. 🙁

I wanted to make these but I have no wheat flour. I do have white rice flour which I’d think would be better on my dog’s stomach. Do you think that will be an ok substitute? I am thinking about freezing half of the dough too so that I don’t have all these treats sitting around and can make them when he finishes the first batch.

I have a dog named Piper as well!!
I love the recipe, however I will substitute oatmeal flour instead of the wheat ( My Piper is a Westie and has allergies to wheat).

I’m hoping that Almond or Coconut flour will work because my FiFiGiGi has Cushings and is on a completely grain free diet… will report back when I try them (some time this week)

Wow thank you for this recipe – we got some of these made today … only they are peanut butter and sweet potato biscuits. The sweet potato was baked in its skin and cooled before the dough was mixed. Ours also used spelt flour which is supposed not to cause the same wheat intolerance issues – quite frankly we don’t care about all that dietary stuff we just want the biscuits! Yummy.

Hey, I wanted to thank you for this awesome recipe! I make it all the time for my sweet doggie…But we’re also in rescue, so I bake these for our rescue dogs as well–They deserve a treat after everything they’ve been through. And I ALSO often make them to sell as fundraisers at events!! They are huge sellers bc everyone know how much their doggies love them. Don’t go spreading around how easy these are to make, or we’ll lose money! 😉 Thank you!!
