Write It Down

The new year is in full swing, and I am planning for 2014 like a mad woman! List after list after list are all taking form in my notebook as plans and ideas are carefully laid. Sometimes things just don’t feel real until I’ve written them down, you know?

DODOnotes

DODOcase-2-Design-Crush

DODOcase and Mohawk Paper have teamed up to create a notebook that’s also a case for your iPhone. DODOnotes is rocking my world, because though I rely on my phone for a lot I still prefer paper for note taking. I never use the Notes app and instead carry bundles of lists, which can make for a big mess in my small purse. Looks like my problem is solved in a clean old-school-meets-modern way!

What Will You Make Today?

Massimo Vignelli-1-Design Crush

Massimo Vignelli has five decades of award-winning book design under his belt, so it’s only natural that he would support Mohawk‘s What Will You Make Today? campaign by co-developing a limited edition journal. Any designer knows how integral the grid is to designing, and the 7 x 7″ journal includes 100 interior pages with 24 perfect rectangles on each as well as debossed front and back covers with the same design.

Vignelli’s grid explanation is fantastic,“The grid is an integral part of book design. It’s not something that you see. It’s just like underwear: you wear it, but it’s not to be exposed. The grid is the underwear of the book.”

Top 40 Posts Of 2012

A few weeks ago I was taking a look through the past year in posts and decided to put together a Top 40 collection for 2012. I had hoped to spread it out over a few days and organize everything a bit, but a family death and extended stay in Pennsylvania over the holidays set me back and I had to lump it all together. Thank you so much for continuing to help make this site such an amazing part of my daily life – here’s to 2013!

From Here to There

I’m off to Italy for Design Lab a week from today! International travel always feels way different than domestic to me. Of course there’s the extended time in the air and the time change to contend with. But for me it’s always a matter of what to do while in-flight. My usual go-tos are reading, writing, and attempting to catch a few Zs. There’s also the small matter of making sure all of my immediate necessities are within arms reach, I never pack anything I can’t go without for at least 12 hours after arrival (blame that on one too many lost bags). Throw in a tote to carry it all and we’re airborne!
