Dinosaur Designs: Atelier

Dinosaur Designs-1-Design Crush

Dinosaur Designs‘ and their eponymous candy colored wares for house and body just released their latest collection – Atelier. This go around they’ve added candles, linen napkins, and puzzles to the mix just in time for holiday gifting. But those geometric bangles? Those are at the tippy top of my list.

Rachel Ibarra

Rachel Ibarra-5-Design Crush

Rachel Ibarra‘s papier-mâché and canvas vessels radiate color and abstraction all while serving a functional purpose. My favorite design element is the little pointed feet on her bowls, I might just see one holding fruit on my kitchen counter in the near future. Rachel also creates the sweetest brooches – shop her work right here.

bunglo

Bunglo-1-Design Crush

I’ve been eyeing bunglo‘s Instagram account for a few weeks now, immediately hearting every photo of the Austin-based company’s hand-painted patterns as it was posted. Each design is inspired by nature, mid-century architecture, and adventures. Artist and designer Shay Spaniel is behind it all, with an understanding of retail merchandise and lots of travel to base bunglo’s business upon. Shop the full collection of accessories, art, cards, furniture, and pillows in their shop.

Self Press

Self Press-1-Design Crush

Lauren Finkelstein’s Self Press shop is full of hand-designed and hand-decorated porcelain pieces that hit the perfect note. Favoring black, white, and indigo, Finkelstein’s creations all have a moody and mysterious feel to them which I love.

Lindsay Stead

Lindsay Stead-1-Design Crush

Modern heirloom quilts are a beautiful thing. I love that such an age old tradition has been taken by the reins and flipped on its head to create something fresh that stays true to technique. These quilts by Lindsay Stead fit the bill exactly with their geometric designs and thoughtful color palettes. Each time consuming quilt is handmade in her Toronto studio as what can only be described as a time-intensive labor of love. Make one of Lindsay’s quilts or pillows (equally lovely) your own by visiting her shop.

Molly M Designs

Molly M Designs-1-Design Crush

“They” say that you can’t do everything well, that you should find your specialty and hone in on it. Practice and practice until it’s perfect. And then you come across someone like Molly McGrath and you realize “they” couldn’t have been more wrong. McGrath is one of those people who can most easily be categorized as a designer, but whose abilities go much deeper. As the talent behind Molly M Designs, McGrath creates jewelry (15 collections thus far), homewares (coasters, trivets, prints, one of a kinds), and pouches. Just goes to show, sometimes a broad spectrum can be a very good thing.

Ladies & Gentlemen Studio

Ladies & Gentlemen Studio-1-Design Crush

I first took notice of Ladies & Gentlemen Studio after seeing their modern wind chimes, but when I dug a little deeper I realized that was only a tiny part of their clean aesthetic and offerings. The Seattle-based design studio is an ever-evolving set of ideas and experiments in small objects, home decor goods, jewelry, to furniture, lighting, and beyond. Here are some of my favorites.

The Marketplace: September

Design Crush The Marketplace Banner-Design Crush

Design-Crush-The-Marketplace-September-1-Design-Crush

I’ve added a lot of great pieces to The Marketplace over the past month, especially in the Wear It and House Goods categories. You should definitely pop over to take a look, and if you aren’t already following @designcrush on Twitter do because you might catch a promo for free shipping!

Now that fall has hit us – okay, some of us more than others – I’m ready for spots of bright color in unexpected places. The above yellow shibori tea towel by Kristen Chandler has been such a happy spot in my kitchen for the past month. It’s a great size and the material is just the right thickness and absorbency.

Since moving I’m still in the process of framing the most recent additions to my art collection. Fading Lake Day by Lisa Golightly (one of my all-time favorite artists) has been sitting on the windowsill in my dining room for the time being and catches the best light every afternoon, a good match for Lisa’s washed out style.

Design-Crush-The-Marketplace-September-3-Design-Crush

Speaking of my new place, one of the first things I like to do after a move is do my very best to make it smell familiar. Like me, not its previous occupants. Wildfolk has an incredible line of eco-conscious, GMO-free, soy wax candles that are packaged the nicest recycled amber glass jars. I’ve been burning this night jasmine.

This Hapi Raw Silk Tray by Kristi Kohut is quite sturdy (perfect for this clumsy girl) and so pretty. I love the versatility of the 12 x 12″ size, I’ve been using it for my afternoon snack every day but plan on using it on my dresser as well!

Design-Crush-The-Marketplace-September-5-Design-Crush

And while we’re on the topic of snacks, this set of two walnut and beech double stripe snack bowls by Araya Jensen has made quite a few late night trips out to the living room full of dry roasted almonds (fine, and maybe a few kernels of candy corn). The natural woods and earthy tones also make them fantastic for fall entertaining.

This petit wood bud vase by Melanie Abrantes has been working overtime lately. It’s just the smallest, most perfect piece to hold a single bud that there ever was and the farmer’s market blooms I pick up on Saturdays have been keeping it busy.
